Staff Pick Notes

Often times, the cru of Chiroubles is referred to as the "most Beaujolais of all the Crus," putting out wines of lower alcohol, evoking floral and juicy fruit character with high-pitched acidity. It is only expected that Guy Breton, one of the Gang of Four, would take his hand at producing some himself. Aromatically, this wine is full of hibiscus, violet, iris, and wild flora that bring forth a charm that can woo any wine geek. Yet it has enough ripeness, texture, and lithe fruit behind it, that you feel it will certainly evolve in the glass or bottle if you choose to hold onto it. Chewy tart cherry and raspberry-rhubarb come through with velvety, gripping tannins that engage the senses while retaining poise. Guy Breton Beaujolais never fails to provide beauty to chew on.

Beaujolais Nouveau is perhaps the most gulpable wine made anywhere, and it should be drunk very soon after its release, which occurs each year on the...
