The Glenmorangie 13yr Barrel Select Release Cognac Cask Finish Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Item # 44797 750mL

French oak casks (that once held a variety of Cognacs) are the perfect match for the honeyed, citrus, and malt-driven profile of classic Glenmorangie. Part of the limited Barrel Select Release series, this 13-year-old whisky was initially aged in ex-bourbon barrels before being finished in the ex-Cognac casks for a duration of four years.

Staff Pick Notes

This 13 years old whisky was first aged in ex Bourbon cask for eight years, followed by four years in ex Cognac casks.Experts said that in the past, examples of whiskys aged in Cognac cask were unsuccessful because the strong character of Cognac was overwhelming, ruining the typical whisky characters. To avoid this problem, Glenmorangie started using Cognac barrels that were filled several times before: this way the wood influence on the whisky would have been more mellow. The result for me is great: on the nose you can smell cooked apples and vanilla while in the palate you can notice tropical fruit, nectarines and cloves: a full range of flavor and a real pleasure for a Cognac fan like me!
