Tasting Notes

Côte du Forez is a new appellation in the eastern Loire, located in the Auvergne. Though the official recognition has only been since 2000, winemaking has been a tradition since 900 AD. Verdier-Logel's "Volcanique," named for the volcanic soils of the region, is 100% Gamay. Fresh and lean, with bold cherries, scrumptious acidity, and dark minerals, this is easy, quaffing wine. Light on its feet and great with roast chicken breast or bacon and sautéed winter greens.

Staff Pick Notes

If you are in deep steamy love with the Loire valley like I am you most likely appreciate the small things, like minerality. This beautiful Gamay right here is the bee's knees. Bright minerality, stunning acidity, big bold fresh rip strawberry cherries & fresh tart raspberry. Kinda like if you took one of those light bright games, put it into wine form and drank all the blue, red and purple pegs, too much? I hope we are still on the same page. None the less this Gamay will rock your socks and make you brake into some rad dance moves.

Astor's Glossary of Terms

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.
