Item # 16780 750mL

Ancestors of the Zilliken family have been making wine since 1742. Saarburger Rausch is the family's largest vineyard. A gorgeous white wine that is both fruity and mineraled. Playful yet complex and a fine white wine to pair with tempura.

Staff Pick Notes

One of the most respected producers of Riesling in the Saar (and the world), Zilliken is famous for capturing crystalline precision in their wines while balancing a supremely elegant texture that floats across your palate like a butterfly. Zilliken even has a butterfly bottling to showcase this textural mastery! This kabinett, a village level bottling, showcases all the magic of what a great young Saar Riesling can be. A plethora of fruits are on display ranging from oranges & peaches to pineapples & passion fruits, with a cooling hint of mint on the finish. It is a tremendous joy to drink! The Saar is one of the coldest climates that Riesling can grow in, which when combined with the steep slate soils creates a distinctive minerality that Zilliken perfectly balances with their signature texture; it’s almost velvety!

The status of the estate and their wines’ reputation were established by Ferdinand Geltz, a Royal Prussian Forester who was...

Riesling

Though the trend is now in the other direction, for many years Riesling was known for producing wines with little alcohol and some residual sugar - too sweet for many modern wine drinkers. Though it's now cultivated worldwide, Riesling is nearly synonymous with German wine, and that country's winemakers have lately begun to produce some very exciting dry versions. They are careful to retain the delightful honeyed, flinty flavors that the best sweet Rieslings have always displayed. Alsace, of...
