Ménétou-Salon Rouge, Gilbert - 2022

Item # 17796 750 mL

From the Ménétou-Salon appellation, located just west of Sancerre, comes a Pinot Noir that is full of pretty, floral, and supple red berry fruit. There's a cool kiss of mineral on the finish, giving this a fuller feel on the palate. This hand-harvested, earthy Loire red is great for grilled sausages, roasted turkey breast in rich sauces and mushroom pizza.

Pairing Advice

Gilbert is a lively yet reserved young man with an almost British-seeming sense of humor who makes wine in Menetou-Salon, an appellation quite close to Sancerre in the eastern Loire. Gilbert makes an elegant style of Pinot Noir that is reminiscent of his personality. The wine shows many of the powdery, floral, red-berry characteristics of the more feminine Burgundy villages such as Gevrey-Chambertin. In 2006, Gilbert made an overwhelmingly beautiful Pinot that will find a place at the table as the perfect accompaniment to poulet rôtie with roasted root vegetables seasoned with fresh thyme and oregano. Possessed of an herbal and earthy edge, structure, and ripe fruit, the wine plays more than amicably with the simple, savory flavors of this classic fare. -Sophie

Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.
