Staff Pick Notes

Albert Boxler wines are synonymous with Alsatian wine production. Classically produced Riesling, Gewurtztraminer, and Pinot Gris are famous, but everyone may not know that Jean Boxler, Albert's grandson, makes an alarmingly tasty Chasselas. This traditional Swiss grape grows on the granite slopes of Niedermorschwihr, due east of Colmar. As with many of the Alsatian grapes, this wine has a zippy acidity with a ripeness of fruit from the long, summer days. Meyer lemon, Rainier cherry, fresh apricot, canteloupe, kiwi, snap pea, river stones, and the aromas keep coming! On the palate, tart lemon and yellow plum, herbaceous arugula and saline-like minerality. This wine is wonderfully textured and pairs with a vast number of foods. However, this wine is a beautiful accompaniment to the always difficult to pair spring vegetables.

Chasselas

A white grape grown all over the world, including Alsace, the Loire, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Italy. The best Chasselas wines, however, are produced in Switzerland, where the grape is called Fendant and is the most widely planted variety in the country. When made well, Chasselas is soft, welcoming and easy to drink.
