Lioco has created this Chardonnay from a blend of different sources, with all fruit grown in dried creek beds throughout the Russian River. The wine is left in contact with the lees for six months, it does not see any oak, and it is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Fresh citrus notes play against a creamy mouthfeel.
Lioco is owned and operated by husband and wife team: Matt and Sara Licklider. Started in 2005 with the intention to make wines that capture individuality, rather than over-blown, market-driven wines that were trending at the time. This bottle is their entry Chardonnay composed of grapes selected and harvested across several complementary vineyards in Sonoma County. Cool nights plus a foggy atmosphere provided grapes with wonderfully crisp acidity. Aged in stainless steel and some neutral oak, and fermented on the lees for 8 months. The results are delicious. Fresh yellow apples and asian pears on the palate. A lush texture and just enough bite to keep it interesting. Well made, and with purpose.
