Coteaux du Layon, Moulin Touchais - 1976

Item # 20260 750mL

This sweet Chenin Blanc from the Loire is truly an exceptional find. Produced without botrytis, the wines of Moulin Touchais are thought to have the acidity necessary for them to be fresh after a hundred years in the cellar, which makes this bottle practically a young wine.

Staff Pick Notes

Chenin Blanc's ageability is one of my favorite things about this versatile grape variety. Opening up this 19 year old wine I was surprised to find incredibly fresh acidity! It could easily stand another 20 years in the cellar to really show some advanced evolving flavors. The winemaker at Moulin Touchais continues to abide by the the old tradition of aging this wine for a minimum of 10 years before releasing it to the market. The Coteaux du Layon is a sweet and aromatic wine that fans of Sauternes and rieslings should know about- especially at this price!!. Delectable notes of apricot, peach, honey without any botrytis flavors, giving it that brilliant freshness. This makes an exceptional pairing with spicy foods.

As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.

Chenin Blanc

A versatile grape that is grown worldwide, but is most commonly associated with the Loire, California, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. These days, one of the most exciting stories is in South Africa, where newly adopted winemaking technologies have helped a dedicated group of producers to bring the country's dry...
