I have to admit—I tried this Nebbiolo with low expectations. As an Italian, I know Piedmont Nebbiolo well, so I didn't expect a California version to impress me this much. I was wrong. This wine is absolutely delicious. Grown in Santa Maria Valley, north of Santa Barbara, one of California's coolest wine regions, the Pacific Ocean, morning fog, and large day-to-night temperature swings preserve freshness and aromatic elegance. The wine shows classic aromas of rose, cherry, and dried herbs, with a subtle touch of vanilla from 48 months of barrel aging. On the palate, it has bright acidity, fine structure, and silky tannins that are softer than those of Piedmont, making it enjoyable even when young. If you enjoy a fresher, more approachable style of Nebbiolo, this bottle is definitely worth trying.
