Staff Pick Notes

Champagne is often compared to biscuits, dough, or scones. Think of this one as the berries that adorn that yeasty confection. This has a lovely aroma of summer berries as soon as you pop the bottle. The palate is creamy but, because of the acidity, also mouthwatering. The vivid berry flavors on the palate offer something succulent while remaining sophisticated. In other words you can lift your pinky with this wine but don’t feel ashamed if some gets on your shirt. It’s just a testament to the wine. Berry picking is one of the best rights of summer. It’s something everyone should experience. Though if you want to cut to the end, open this.

Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Champagne is finally getting the recognition it deserves as a brilliant food wine. For consistency and quality, turn to the big Champagne brands and you’ll never go wrong. Remember that “Non-Vintage” (NV) is not a dirty word here: NV Champagnes are blends of wines from the best growing seasons. But if you can find one, try a Champagne made by a Grower-Producer. These winemakers control every aspect of grape cultivation and vinification, from the vine to the finished bottle, which is...
