Not unlike Spanish winery Lopez de Heredia, the wines of Chateau Simard are typically aged for several years before release. If you’re like most people and don’t have a cellar, this is a fantastic way to gain exposure to some older vintages at an affordable price. Hailing from the excellent 1999 vintage, this is an uncomplicated St. Emilion with loads of primary fruit (plum) still quite evident in addition to some sweet spice and earth. The maturity shows itself on the palate with seamless balance and ripe, gentle tannins. Drinking quite well right now, but if you are looking for something to cellar, this is a great candidate at an unbeatable price.
