Cour-Cheverny "Cuvée Renaissance", Cazin - 2015

Item # 26006 750mL

Cazin tends vines of considerable age and the resulting yields are always very dense and concentrated with honeyed and sapid linden aromas. Precise citrus acidity carries the steely structure on this ethereal, off dry white. The ultimate selection for a french cheese course, featuring aged, melty goat cheese. Or try with sweet / spicy curries, meats and fish with tropical sauces.

Staff Pick Notes

Have you ever tried a wine made from Romorantin? Unless you've discovered the pleasures of an obscure Loire Valley appellation called Cour-Cheverny, the answer, sadly, is "probably not." There aren’t too many in the United States, but Cazin is among the best. Fresh, mineral, and with a unique, tangerine-peel-like citrus note, this style is just off-dry and balanced with a focused beam of acidity. With even a little bit of age Cazin's wines begin to take on gorgeous notes of honeycomb and apple cider. In many ways they remind me of older Chenin Blanc, but with a more immediate freshness. The wine is richly textured and is a perfect match for spicy take-out. Think green curries, sweet and sour chicken, or lemongrass duck. An absolute steal!

Glossary

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.
