Nuits-St-Georges, "Clos des Forêts St. Georges", Dom. de l'Arlot - 2021

Item # 27140 750 mL

A wonderful vintage like this cool classic is worth cellaring, savoring, or sharing. From the domain's monopole of older vines located just north of Prémeaux, this Pinot Noir is aromatic and silky, with hints of plums, undercut with chocolate shavings. Superb concentration and a lovely texture.

Staff Pick Notes

An old-school wine from an estate beloved of serious Burgundy drinkers, I would call this regal if it weren't so delicately wrought. Whole-cluster fermentation, infrequent pigeage, and light-handed use of sulfur typify the vinification practices that give this Domaine's reds their classy, elegant style, as well as tremendous aging potential. This wine sees 18 months in oak (35% of which is new) but while present, oak phenolics are fully integrated into the flavor profile. Fans of recent bottlings by Domaine Dujac, in particular, should take note. Harmonious and approachable now, this really deserves to be cellared for ten to fifteen years.

About the Producer

Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France Old archives describe the presence of Jean-Charles Vienot, an heir from a long line of Burgundians and owner of a house and vines at the end of the eighteenth century in the village of Prémeaux. He was an enterprising man who built a wall around the domaine and thus created the Clos de l'Arlot. In 1891, the property was sold to a wine merchant, Jules Belin, who...

Pinot Noir

The Burgundy region of northeastern France is the historic home of the Pinot Noir grape, and is the source of the world’s greatest examples. Here one finds renditions of Pinot Noir that deliver power with finesse and grace, wines that have unimaginable depth of flavor, yet are perfectly balanced and ephemeral in the mouth - in short, wines that deliver all that Pinot Noir has to offer. Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Burgundy

The range of wine styles offered in Burgundy rivals that of any other region. In Chablis, Chardonnay is left unoaked to produce lean, crisp, steely wines with incredible acidity - a far cry from the vanilla-oak bombs that so many consumers associate with this grape. Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
