This comes Made from 60 year old Cannonau vines coming from clay and sand-based soils. This wine shows complexity and depth and shows its southerly character. Dried fruits on the nose, ripeness with earth and spices followed by vibrant fresh red fruits on the palate. A match for skirt steak.

“Barrosu” is a local Sardinian expression referring to someone who is brash or stubborn. The fact that this is what Giovanni Montisci decides to call his Cannonau di Sardegna provides insight into both the wine and the man. Regarding the wine, it is an unapologetic expression of the rugged terroir of Sardinia’s mountainous interior. Cannonau is the Sardinian name for grenache and achieves special quality in the town of Mamoiada, where Montisci (organically) farms a tiny 2 hectares of old vines. Barrosu is an exercise in balance; it is powerful and fresh, serious and fun. Expect wild and brambly red fruits, savory herbs, and notes of rose and orange zest. Reach for Barrosu to elevate a pizza party, to pair alongside a holiday roast, or gift it to your father-in-law who loves Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Share it with the barrosu in your life!
