The Colares region of Portugal is the smallest in all of Portugal. As its sandy coastal vineyards are torn up the world is losing a beautiful, incredibly delicious and unique part of Portuguese heritage. As suburbanization is overtaking the vineyards physically, the thirst for brand name international varietals is drowning out distinct, special, and much more interesting grapes and wines.These same conditions mean that only around 50 acres of vines remain here The Malvasia de Colares is genetically distinct from the common Malvasia, and is a fantastic varietal in its own right. With floral notes of jasmine, orange blossom, and honeysuckle, savory herbs, minerals and a touch of the saline sea that it abuts, this wine is a rare treasure. Drink now or maybe never!
