Once the favorite of Piedmont's nobility, the small but esteemed wines of Burlotto continue to impress today. Although best known for their Barolo, winemaker Fabio Alessandria crafts some beautiful wines from the indigenous and unusual grapes of the region. One of these is the rarely seen Pelaverga. This wine is light and fresh, with an abundance of aromas and flavors. Look for rose hip tea, strawberry, black pepper, orange peel, and even some gamey notes underneath. Tannins are gentle, and acidity is bright but restrained. Soft cheeses, påté and steak tartare are just a few of it's many possible pairings.
