Staff Pick Notes

A show-stopping glass of wine from the mainland of Greece. To truly appreciate and understand Haroula, let us take a look at it's namesake. Viniculturist Dr Haroula Spinthiropoulou she founded the Argatia Winery in 2000 in the village of Rodochori outside of Naoussa in Northern Greece. Argatía is a word from the Greek dialect that refers to an ancient agricultural tradition of collective work and cooperation. Fitting, before starting her own estate, she spent decades as a consultant, helping other wineries identify the best clones and vineyard sites. The Haroula White Blend is a tantalizing blend of both white and red grapes. Malagouzia and Assyrtiko proving a pink citrus freshness and a mineral profile. Then a touch of Xinomavro for complexity, skin contact and intrigue.

More About This Wine

Malagousia

Pronounced "mah lah gou ZYA", this Greek varietal is making a return from the brink of extinction. This intensely aromatic grape variety makes elegant, full-bodied white wines possessing aromas of exotic spices and fruits. If you like Viognier or Muscat, Malagousia is the grape for you.

Assyrtiko

Pronounced "a SEER tee ko". This white varietal is native to Santorini and the other Aegean Islands. Used to make crisp dry wines similar in style to dry Riesling, it is often blended with other varietals - both indigenous and international - such as Sauvignon Blanc. This grape is also used to make the popular Greek dessert wine, Vinsanto.
