Glen Graeme Astor Select Single Cask 10yr Arran Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky - 2013

Item # 50276 700 mL

Back when this distillery was founded in 1995 private casks like this were easy to come by as they used the investment to get up and running. But since those early days availability to casks has all but ceased since they focused on building their older stocks and own brands. So we were honored as an early collaborator to not only get our hands on this cask but especially at this unbelievable price. Distilled in April of 2013 and aged in a single first fill bourbon cask for a decade. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 57.9% abv on August 31st 2023.

Staff Pick Notes

Off the west coast of Scotland lies a majestic isle named Arran that was once home to over 50 distilleries, but until 1995, none remained! A consortium headed by former managing director of Chivas Bros Harold 'Hal' Currie sought to change that, and in 1991 purchased land in Lochranza, on the north end of the island. With Hal's friend David Hutchinson, the Isle of Arran Distillers Ltd was born. Arran claims to have the purest water in Scotland, with six consecutive cascading waterfalls that pool behind the distillery at Loch na Davie on a granite bed. The fruity and creamy aspect of their whisky was apparent immediately, a testament to their malted barley & yeast, but what caught me by surprise was how soft the liquid was at such a high proof. The orchard fruits, coconut, toffee, & caramel are all in harmony in this understated gem.

With the Parliament’s passing of the “Excise Act” in 1824, licensing fees for distilleries were much cheaper. Distilleries started to take out licenses, and since then, the distillation industry in Scotland has been continuously expanding....
