Guiseppe Borschi created the recipe for this rare elixir in 1840 using ancient monastic recipes of a medicinal concoction as his guide. All of the ingredients are 100% natural with a secret blend of spices at its core. Fourth generation Edigio Borsci still oversees production at the distillery in San Marzano. The rum base really shines through with additional notes that include bubble gum, spicy cinnamon, kola, mauby root, dried cherries, coffee, cocoa and saffron.

I took this home on a whim basically because I did not know much about it and have been exploring the Amaro category. I really did not know what what to think even after I first tried it. Its really not like other Amaro and I think that is because of the Rum base. Rum? Yeah, so I started to think of it was a very intense spiced rum and then it all started to make sense. Thick and rich with wonderful vanilla and spice notes and a balance of bitterness. Giuseppe Borsci started production of the way back in 1840 from an ancient family recipe from the Caucuses in central Asia. Truly a unique and wonderful experience.
