Vouvray Sec "Les Déronnières", François Pinon - 2022

Item # 35592 750mL

The Vouvrays from François Pinon are impressive and have an incredible amount of soul to them. This Vouvray is still in style, unctuous on the palate and heavy with aromas of honeycomb and honeysuckle. Structure from acidity and minerals complement the fruit. A dry Vouvray, so delicately balanced with acidity that you'll find it works well at the table with a myriad of dishes, be it scallops, pulled-pork or monkfish.

Staff Pick Notes

Vouvray all day! That is how the slogan really goes. Forget rose, forget gamay, Chenin Blanc is the queen regnant of today. Its jealous Loire stepsister Sauvignon Blanc is being punished cleaning the litter box and mowing the lawn, and Chenin Blanc is getting ready for her debutante ball. This beautiful wine has notes of honey, peaches, white pepper, racing acidity, and a touch of residual sugar. From the oldest of Pinon's vines, grown on limestone soils, this wine is fermented in old wooden vats with native yeasts. Fermentation is arrested naturally by the cold, resulting in the kiss of sweetness that really makes this wine go up to 11. Great for a cool autumn day, cold winter night, and is fantastic with spiced dishes and creamy cheeses.

Glossary

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.

Chenin Blanc

A versatile grape that is grown worldwide, but is most commonly associated with the Loire, California, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. It produces just about any type of wine you can think of: ageworthy dessert wines; delicious, honeyed dry whites; sparklers; and even bases for fortified wines and spirits. These days, one of the most exciting stories is in South Africa, where newly adopted winemaking technologies have helped a dedicated group of producers to bring the country's dry...
