There was a time when Sauvignon Blanc and I were BFFs, or so it seemed. Then my palate changed, or more to the point it got exposed to lots of other wines. Tasting other grapes and flavor profiles is part of the pro research, but my return to appreciation of this variety is due in part to the dry white wines from Bordeaux. One of the unique points about the style? The Sauvignon is supported by Semillon and sometimes a bit of Muscadelle (not to be confused with Moscato, a sweet wine from Italy). Pontet Reynaud makes a shining example of Bordeaux Blanc, full of bright lemon and lime, rounded acidity, and herbal notes. It's a great alternative to intense examples from the Loire or New Zealand. An ideal candidate for summer sipping!
