Rosato Canaiulo, Montenidoli - 2023

Item # 36606 750 mL

Canaiulo is an ancient Tuscan red grape that's made into Elisabetta Fagiuoli's sole rosé wine. The Montenidoli estate is literally and figuratively a mountain, located above the historic town of San Gimignano. A great foil for anything from soft cheeses to braised chicken.

Staff Pick Notes

Terroir, fermenting whites on the skins, and farming organically may all be quite trendy now, but Elisabetta Fagiouli, the owner of Montenidoli winery, has been doing these things since the 1960s. Her vineyards outside Chianti are surrounded by forests and have never seen a drop of pesticide in the 6 decades that she's been making wine here. All of the wines she makes are alive and vibrant with an unmistakable purity of fruit. Her rose is one of my favorites, showing a freshness an minerality that is made for summer sipping. Elisabetta has a solution for the political strife that's run rampant: politicians need to stop drinking water and drink more wine. They would do well starting with a bottle of this.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano shows the softer side of the grape, containing up to 20% of other varieties. Young Chianti often smells of fresh fruit and herbs, while Chianti Classico Riserva can be dark and brooding. The term “Super Tuscans”...
