"Uivo Renegado" Vinho Tinto, Folias de Baco - 2022

Item # 37095 750mL

A field blend of red and white grapes from the Douro Valley. This wine is light on its feet with bright red fruit notes and lithe minerality, reminiscent of Pinot Noir. Best enjoyed lightly chilled. Tiago Sampaio is the face behind Folias De Baco combining wine tradition of the Douro, the teachings and the passion transmitted by his grandfather and scientific knowledge acquired during academic training abroad.

Staff Pick Notes

This here wine is Kool Aid for wine lovers. It’s as crushable as a wine can be. In the glass, it shows a glowing soft red color. The nose and palate have bright red berries and a hint of fresh herbs. It has fresh, mouthwatering acidity, and low alcohol. Despite being a fun-loving wine, it is to be taken seriously. Tiago Sampaio founded Folias de Baco in 2007 after earning a PhD in viticulture and enology in Oregon. He chose the Douro of his childhood to begin his project. Ever since, he’s been creating new and original wines in Portugal’s oldest and most traditional region. This “renegade” uses over 25 local white and red varietals from vines of 70-plus years' age. The elevation is over 2000 ft, the farming is organic, and vinification is natural. It was quite lovely with my hummus two days ago and my jerk chicken yesterday.

Literally translated as "green wine," it...
