Far from the fluorescent red absinthes floating around that are mostly full of artificial additives, Herson's is completely natural and the addition of hibiscus and lemon noticeably change the profile here to one that is more floral, delicate and invigorating compared the more bitter and spicy expressions in this range.
I love a good surprise, especially when it comes in a bottle like this. The surprise is when you taste this artisinal absinthe, thinking you'll be overwhelmed by flavors of anise or licorice and you realize (WOW!) that it's an extremely well balanced, slightly floral take on the standards of the category. What a delight! Independently delicious with notes of hibiscus, lemon, and artemisia absinthium AKA grand wormwood for a hint of bitterness. All of the ingredients are natural and the small batch distillation speaks to its quality. That being said, I can't wait to test it in my next Corpse Reviver cocktail. If you've been looking for a niche spirit to round out your collection, Doc Herson's Red absinthe is a fascinating concoction & your home bar is not complete without it.
California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
