Turley, Cinsault, "Bechtoldt Vineyard" - 2023

Item # 40766 750mL

Planted in 1886, this Cinsault from the Bechtholdt vineyard is the oldest of its kind in the country—perhaps even beyond. The vines are gnarly, head-trained and planted on their own roots. The wine is light-bodied, tart, perfumed, and extremely well balanced.

Staff Pick Notes

Turley Wine Cellars is deservedly renowned for some of California’s best big, bold Zinfandels and Petite Sirahs. It’s a pleasant surprise to discover this Cinsault, which displays Turley’s elegant touch. This wine is vinified from fruit gathered in the old Bechtold Vineyard in Lodi. First planted in 1886, Bechtold is America’s oldest running Cinsault vineyard. These ancient vines grow grapes of concentration and character. As with all of Turley’s collaborators, Bechtold is farmed organically. The wine is clear in complexion and gives off aromas of berries, flowers, and sweet spices. The palate is soft and silky in texture and shows flavors of spiced cherries. The bright acidity and low ABV(12.6%) makes this just the thing to satisfy the new wave of wine lovers who seek the lighter, more crushable reds. A hangout with friends wine.

Glossary

California

California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
