Staff Pick Notes

I can't get enough of Grolleau. Dark yet relatively light, delicate yet nicely structured, they've got nice acidity and are often farmed organically and/or naturally. They're also low in alcohol, are perfect with a nice little chill, and are great casual wines to kick back and relax with. Wines that are best enjoyed in a "cocagne", which doesn't mean what you might think it means (wink wink), but instead refers to a tranquil place one escapes to take it easy. This is a lovely expression of Grolleau: dark indigo colored, dry, fresh, and juicy with earthy undertones, and with a touch of balsamic and black cherry. Pop it in the fridge for a half hour before serving and find your own personal cocagne, preferably with goat cheese. Enjoy!

Glossary

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.
