With vineyards positioned on the eastern side of the Oakville appellation, the vines are planted in a variety of soils: gravel, clay, volcanic and sandy loam, among others. Gavin Newsom founded the Plumpjack winery in 1992 and it was under his leadership that this Napa winery has thrived over the decades. While Gavin still owns the winery, he has fully embraced political life and is currently the governor of the state of California.
