Neleman, Macabeo - 2019

Item # 42893 750mL

The Neleman winery was started by Dutchman Derrick Neleman who studied biodynamic farming before ending up in the southeastern area of Spain, Valencia. The elevation (700 masl) is a crucial factor to freshness in this wine, which comes from a warmer region in the country, and plays an integral role in the vibrancy of this wine.

Staff Pick Notes

Derrick Neleman started this winery with the intent to make wines that work in harmony with the land where it was cultivated. All vineyards are organic and vegan with no pesticides used, and they re-use as many resources as possible with a carbon neutral goal. Sometimes looking at something with an outside point of view is just the trick. In this case he saw a chance to work purposefully on prime winegrowing land with a host of indigenous grapes. This Macabeo (also known as "Viura" in Rioja) is rich and round on the palate. Aging in a combination of new oak and steel offers it a richness and freshness. An abundance of tropical fruits--passion fruit, limes, and mango--are on the nose and palate. The finish is clean and crisp. It's both conscientious and delicious.
