Crafted from four separate clones of Mataro, this is an elegant treatment for a grape all too often treated as second class behind its more famous Northern Rhône siblings. This red would pair well with a classic Australian meat pie.

I learned something new about wine. Known as Mourvèdre in France and Monstrell in Spain, this age-worthy red is grown in Austrailia as Mataro. Rarely outside of Bandol is this grape given a chance to shine on its own, and even less often in a fresh, fruity style like the Mataro from down under. That freshness is built on a sturdy platform of earthy and firm, but not astringent, tannins, which make this a wonderful partner to food as well.
