Staff Pick Notes

German Riesling is one of the wines that I constantly crave. Its complexity, drinkability, and potential to age beautifully all conspire to make me want to buy, drink, and collect as much as physically possible. I live in a Brooklyn apartment, which is not exactly a cellar in Germany. Anyway, this is a fantastic bottle for right now, tonight, or a decade from now. This extremely historical estate traces its origins back to the Seventh Century. Vines have been growing on the Abtsberg vineyard for over one thousand years. The vines that go into this particular bottling are around forty years of age. Blue Devonian slate soils, the slightly cooler Ruwer climate, and hand picked grapes all guarantee one of the finest Rieslings available.

They are careful to retain the delightful honeyed, flinty flavors that the best sweet Rieslings have always displayed. Alsace, of...
