Staff Pick Notes

One of Riesling’s great virtues is its ageability. Through years in the bottle will the acidity and residual sugar of a quality Riesling form compounds that enriches the flavors and texture of the wine. We were lucky to have brought in a couple of cases of a back vintage of Reinhardt Haart's Riesling Kabinett. Pieseport is a village whose vineyards lie just meters away from the banks of the Mosel. The vineyards feature steep slopes and slate soils. As with great Rieslings you'll detect a myriad of fruit flavors. Lime and grapefruit citrus, pears, tropical fruit. The years have given the wine scents of petrol and beeswax, and a touch of honey. Acidity remains and keeps the fresh fruit alive. What was perhaps zippy and fresh now has become rich and opulent. Try with spicy Thai or Korean fried rice.

They are careful to retain the delightful honeyed, flinty flavors that the best sweet Rieslings have always displayed. Alsace, of...
