Staff Pick Notes

Domaine du Margalleau is the family estate of Bruno and Jean-Michel Pieaux. Named after Jean-Michel’s grandfather favorite small parcel on the original estate, Dom. Margalleau is committed to traditional method winemaking that shows the true terroir of Loire. 100% Chenin Blanc planted on “tuffeau," soft chalk, clay and limestone soils. The vines are 40 years old on average. Biodiversity and soil health is the primary focus, forgoing any insecticides use in the vineyard. Grapes are harvested by hand, pressed immediately and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks for 6 months. Secondary fermentation takes place in bottle and cellared for a year before disgorgement. The bubbles are well rounded and classical. The flavor is fresh, balanced and clean, with the yellow flower and spring herb notes signature to Vouvray.

These days, one of the most exciting stories is in South Africa, where newly adopted winemaking technologies have helped a dedicated group of producers to bring the country's dry...
