Production Methods

Practicing Organic

Wine made from grapes grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides in the vineyard.

Tasting Notes

Made from the very grapes that go into Cava but altogether one of the finest sparkling wines from the region. Aged for 24 months before disgorging. The Mas Gomà estate has 60 year vines planted in chalk-based soils. This and the ideal exposition of the vineyards makes for a superior sparkling wine from the region.

Staff Pick Notes

Mas Gomà La Planta is a remarkable wine that truly over delivers at its price point. Joan Vendrell Junior and Senior are the current attendants of the Mas Gomà estate, which has been in the family since 1918. The serious level of quality comes from vines that are over 60 years old and grown organically on calcareous soils. The vinification is virtually non-interventionist, with zero dosage and just a trace of sulfur added at bottling. The wine ages on the lees for 24 months. The wine is bready, nutty, and rich with umami. Green apple and honeysuckle notes also adorn the palate. Try dissolving a morsel of cream enriched soft cheese with this wine in your mouth if you’d like a taste of heaven.

Growing primarily in the northeastern region of Catalonia, Xarel-lo is most famous for its role in the production of the Spanish sparkling wine known as Cava (along with Macabeo and Parellada). Xarel-lo is occasionally bottled on its own as a deliciously crisp still wine, frequently filled with notes of stone fruits and herbs.

Along with Macabeo and Xarel-lo, this is one of the three grapes that make up the traditional Cava blend. Occasionally blended with better-known varieties (e.g. Sauvignon Blanc) in delightful still whites, Parellada yields light and firmly acidic wines with pleasing floral aromas.
