Staff Pick Notes

The Anselma Winery has been a staple of the village of Serralunga since the early 1920's. Founded by Felice Anselma and his wife Franchina, and now overseen by their grandson Franco, the family struck gold in a region some overlooked in the past. Serralunga, known for the less fertile and more sandstone packed Serravallian soils has always given producers some issues in balancing younger wines but offers for more structured and intense aged options. 2016 is one of the best Barolo vintages in the past decade and we are reaching the ideal drinking period for this gem. Boasting bold raspberry fruit notes and a subtle hint of truffle and anise on the palate, with the classic aromas of dried rose and tar to engage every sense, this wine is well worth the experience now but I can only imagine what it will offer given a bit more time.
