Gavi, Orsola - 2022

Item # 46985 750mL

The Spinola family has been making wine from the vines surrounding their castle since 1367. The label is a portrait by Andy Warhol of Orsola Spinola, a relative who lived in New York and was painted by Andy-twice. Elegant, fresh and mineral, this is classic Cortese. A wine wine fit for a family legend.

Staff Pick Notes

Finally, the sun is shining, Spring cleaning is finished and I have the windows open for the first time in months with fresh...ish Brooklyn air flowing into my apartment. It is now time for white wine season. This is a "gimme a case" wine. It is fresh, light, and mineral driven, with balanced acidity and it's incredibly well priced. It has everything that I'm looking for to sip on while sitting out on my stoop on an eighty-degree Sunday afternoon. On the palate this wine is very light bodied and fresh with a balanced acidity and a touch of citrus and green apple.

Gavi

Gavi, made from the light-skinned Cortese grape, is becoming hugely popular lately. Everyone who tastes Gavi seems to love it; it's a can't-miss wine for anyone looking for something new in a white.

Cortese

A white variety grown throughout much of Italy, but most widely known for the lovely wines it produces in Piedmont's Gavi DOCG. The best Cortese wines are fresh, aromatic and fruity, with a bracing minerality and citrus on the finish.
