Ch. Les Graves de Viaud, Réserve - 2016

Item # 47012 750mL

A robust red Bordeaux that comes from the estate's oldest (55 year old) Merlot vines. After fermentation, the wine ages for two years in French oak barrels that are new. An ideal wine to pair with marinated skirt steak. Will age further for a good decade.

Staff Pick Notes

Organic, biodynamic and vegan red Bordeaux that can stand the test of the time for under $40? We must be dreaming! However, Château Les Graves de Viaud makes this a reality in the heart of the Côtes de Bourg. Here 11.5 ha are planted on south-facing slopes with gravelly-clay soil. A Merlot-dominant blend, this wine is made without the use of animal products throughout the vinification. This a dense and structured wine with fresh and ripe fruit notes of black and red plums, black cherry, and red raspberry. Spice notes of licorice, bay leaf and fresh tobacco add an extra layer of complexity. Freshly turned, clay soil with its rustic earthiness and mineral finish complement the fresh fruit. This wine will only get better with time or a healthy decanting.

For white Bordeaux, only three varieties are permitted: Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillion, and Muscadelle. The exact percentages of each grape variety used in any...
