Staff Pick Notes

5 Words: Crispy, Pioneering, Green Apple, Lemon-curd 100% Riesling This delightful bottling from Eva Fricke was born of necessity, but has been a huge hit, and she’s made it ever since. In 2017, hail in the Rheingau wiped out a large percentage of vineyards and damaged many more bunches. Rather than give up, Eva decided to make an early harvest wine with lower alcohol, a touch of sugar and an ever so slight juicy sparkle. The inspiration for this style comes from Vinho Verde. She enjoyed this wine with friends when she spent time hiking along the Camino de Santiago in northwest Spain. Fun Facts: Fricke grew up in Saxony (beer country) and certainly doesn’t come from a wine making family. She studied wine all over the world, and landed in Rheingau to start her own winery in the early 2000’s. She’s so cool!

Though it's now cultivated worldwide, Riesling is nearly synonymous with German wine, and that country's winemakers have lately begun to produce some very exciting dry versions. They are careful to retain the delightful honeyed, flinty flavors that the best sweet Rieslings have always displayed. Alsace, of...
