Marsannay Rouge, Ghislain Kohut - 2020

Item # 47191 750mL

Richly hued and aromatic with black and red fruits, this red Marsannay has much in common with the wines from neighboring Gevrey-Chambertin. The vines range in age from 20 to 40 years old. This is a structured red Burgundy yet it has fine tannins and shows power and finesse. Pair with prime rib with a shallot reduction.

Staff Pick Notes

Domaine Kohut is a third generation grower and winemaker from the Cotes du Nuit, in the very north of Burgundy. The estates town of Marsannay is know as the “Golden Gateway" because of its proximity to the Grand Cru appellations to the south. But not to be overlooked, Marsannay is the only village appellation that produces wines in all three standard colors of white, red and rosé. This Marsannay Rouge is a blend of different parcels in the center of the appellation, primarily 20 to 40 year old vines, grown on mineral rich limestone soils. In the glass, the color is a deep Ruby, foreshadowing a round and structured sip full of rich strawberry, blueberry and blackcurrant notes. Balanced by a youthful acidity, this is on of the most satisfying and ready to drink expression of Burgundy you could ask for.

Pinot Noir

The Burgundy region of northeastern France is the historic home of the Pinot Noir grape, and is the source of the world’s greatest examples. Here one finds renditions of Pinot Noir that deliver power with finesse and grace, wines that have unimaginable depth of flavor, yet are perfectly balanced and ephemeral in the mouth - in short, wines that deliver all that Pinot Noir has to offer. Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Burgundy

Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
