From the historic and rapidly disappearing region of Colares, this oceanic dry white comes from vines planted in clay covered in sand. The laborious vineyard work is rewarded with some of the most concentrated and intresting wines that you will find. This is entirely Malvasia from the property once owned by Manuel Jose Colares. Pair this rich, full-bodied, saline, and stone-fruited dry white with Portuguese octopus rice.

100% Malvasia. 5 Words: Fully Realized, Perilla, Quince, Moonflower. Colares is a somewhat forgotten appellation in Portugal, known for incredibly age-worthy wines. Unfortunately many pre-phylloxera vines grown on the sandy dunes were destroyed in order for beach-front properties to be built. Hoping to keep this wine region from disappearing completely, in 1999 the Fundaçao Oriente bought 9 hectares of land once farmed by Manuel Jose Colares. Lucky for us, we now have access to these beautiful back-vintage wines. The grapes for this wine were planted around 2004, but the potential here is undeniable. This wine has settled into itself, finding the perfect balance of acidity, saline, fruit and nuttiness, with maybe a touch of honey.
