Item # 47774

Rincrocca comes from a selection of old Verdicchio vines planted at the high altitude area of Castello di Jesi. The vines are grown in limestone-rich soils adding a mineral aspect. Winemaker Riccardo Baldi is a rising star in Le Marches as his finesse with the local Verdicchio grape is evident in all his wines.

Staff Pick Notes

For those seeking qualities of premier-cru-level Chablis, but from an underappreciated region at half the price, this bottling from La Staffa, born from 50+ year old, biodynamically-farmed Verdicchio vines in the Castelli di Jesi appellation in coastal Le Marche, is a wonderful surprise. Producer Riccardo Baldi is young (just in his early 30s!) but produces wine with a remarkable level of thoughtfulness and precision: fermentation on concrete, lees aging for 10 months, and 20 months aging in the bottle, with minimal sulfur used during the process. Screaming acidity, twinkling with lime zest and bitter almond, plays against an exquisite, creamy texture and a long finish. Like a good Chablis, this would be a natural choice with oysters, or partnered with rich, creamy dishes demanding a high-acid counterpart.

More About This Wine

Verdicchio

This white Italian grape variety generally produces wines with a good amount of acidity, making it great for cutting through buttery, saucy dishes.

Marches

This region lies on Italy’s Adriatic Coast, so much of its cuisine is seafood-based. Marches is best-known for its white wines. Verdicchio produced near the towns of Jesi and Matelica often has gently bitter notes and rich fruit, and is an excellent match for many seafood dishes. Red wines are produced here as well, with Sangiovese being the dominant red grape in the region. When blended with the local Montepulciano, it makes a wine called Rosso Piceno (mostly sangiovese) or Rosso Conero...
