New Riff Astor Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey - 2018

This distiller has stood out from the pack since they started and we've been working closely with them ever since. So we were honored to select and bottle their first exclusive single barrel Rye Whiskey. Distilled on January 8th 2018 and aged for four and a half years in a heavily toasted char #1 barrel from Independent Stave Cooperage prior to being bottled at a natural cask strength. True to form the whiskey is bold and direct in profile with well defined flavors of cedar, dill, yellow peach, apricot, apple, pepper and clover honey all standing out.

Staff Pick Notes

At Astor we are lucky enough to get a good number of Astor Barrel picks, so many that sometimes they can get lost in the shuffle. This one deserves some extra love so here it is. When tasting this side by side with bourbons of the same price range this one just "POPS" with flavor even at slightly lower ABV in some cases. If all other factors, aging, barrels and still type being even rye just has more flavor. For some it can be too spicy or rough but when done right like this New Riff, rye can be exquisite. Revealing layer of flavors of oak, malt, rye, spice, and caramel as you sip and enjoy this beautiful whiskey.
