Production Methods

Biodynamic

Wine made from grapes grown organically using natural composting techniques and special preparations of herbal sprays while following the astronomical calendar.

Orange Wine (Skin Contact)

Orange wine is made by using white wine grapes, which are pressed and left in contact with the skins, seeds, and stems for an extended period of time, similar to how red wine is made.

This prolonged maceration extracts color, tannins, and phenols, giving the wine a darker, sometimes orange color. It also produces a wine with more structure and intense flavor.

Maceration times can vary between a few hours to many months, with longer contact giving more color and extraction.

Staff Pick Notes

The Kreydenweiss family have been growing grapevines in Alsace for 3 centuries. The latest generation, Antoine and his wife Charlotte are responsible for the Lune a Boire label, a series of natural and easy to love wines. They are made with fruit from neighboring wine growers who practice organic and biodynamic farming methods. This orange edition is composed of Gewurztraminer and Sylvaner that see 1 week of whole bunch skin maceration. The wine then is aged in large neutral casks. It shows a rusty deep amber color in the glass. Aromas of baking spice, citrus, and lychee pour out of the glass. Flavors of tea, orange, and pineapple show on the palate. The tannins are medium and the texture is rich and a touch grainy. It’s a bottle you’ll want to pass around a small group for friends.

Alsace

Located on the eastern border of France, on the west bank of the Upper Rhine, adjacent to Germany and Switzerland, Alsace represents the intersection of two wholly different wine cultures that have given birth to a third. Once part of the Holy Roman Empire, Alsace was gradually put under French sovereignty during the 17th Century and eventually made one of the provinces of France. Yet, as evidenced by the persistece of a dialect of Upper German in the region even today, Alsace's ties to Germany...

Gewürztraminer

You won't likely forget your first "Gewürz," as they're some of the most distinctive and recognizable wines in the world. They are usually heavily perfumed with rich lychee and rose aromas. The variety is cultivated all over the world, but the best examples tend to come from Alsace: these are full-bodied wines with a golden color. The pink-skinned Gewürztraminer does best in cooler climates, which allow the grapes to develop good balancing acidity. This is a necessary attribute of any...

Pinot Gris

Pinot Grigio is an Italian synonym for the French Pinot Gris variety, but many more people have had Pinot Grigio than a Pinot Gris. At its most basic level, the grape produces varietals that are smooth and easy to drink, and perfect with a huge range of dishes that just beg to be paired with a fresh white wine. There is an entire spectrum of Pinot Gris/Grigio, however, the best of them being subtly aromatic and deeply colored, with formidable structures. Most of Italy's Pinot Grigio is grown in...
