Macurichos Astor Batch Maguey Blanco Mezcal - 2004

An almost impossibly rare spirit originally distilled on 2004 and resting in glass demijohn in the family's cellar, untouched and unblended for 18yrs! It was by far the most exceptional thing we tasted on our visit last year and had it bottled exclusively for us and our great customers. The total yield for the batch was a mere 36 liters of which we have only 23 extremely precious bottles to offer. The Sernas family is the last in Matatlan to produce all of their mezcals in the ancient tradition completely by hand, fermented naturally with wild yeasts, and wood fired double pot distillation in earthen clay pots using local encino oak to fuel the stills. The mezcal is supremely elegant after all the time harmonizing in glass, but the flavors of sweet herbs, bee pollen, fresh coconut, white pepper and powdery minerals are extraordinarily vivid.
