Staff Pick Notes

I’m always thrilled to see a new Sylvain Pataille wine arrive at Astor, they’re all absolute stunners. Sylvain’s a Marsanny native and one of a new breed of winemakers who’s achieved the highest level of training at Beaune’s Lycee Viticole, alongside other luminaries Benjamin Leroux and Nicholas Rossignol. A highly sought after consultant, Sylvain somehow finds the time to manage fifteen hectares, all in northernmost Marsannay. This is a love letter from the terroir, a blend of Chardonnay and ultra-rare Chardonnay Rose grapes. Vivid copper and green tea colors in the glass prepare us for enticing aromas of red apple skin, stone fruits, and pineapple danish. The flavors continue to develop on an irresistibly luscious palate and a long, dry savory finish takes us home. Can’t wait to see what a couple of years in the bottle does.

It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...
