Vergano Dry Vermouth

Item # 49299 750mL

One of the best and most unexpected collaborations we've seen in years. To make this special edition of their dry vermouth, the Vergano family teamed up with iconic natural wine makers Clos du Tue-Boeuf, using the Loire producers rare Romorantin white wine as the base! The herbal aromas follow on the palate with buoyant notes of lemon and summer melon wrapped up in a piercing palate cleansing acidity. Very special.

Staff Pick Notes

I love vermouth, and while I drink it independently as much as a component of cocktails, I tend to think of it as an herbal or slightly bitter compliment. But this! It's a real zinger. A whiff of dried white flowers and thyme happily coincide with the acidity of lemon candies in a way that I have never experienced in a vermouth. Is the secret the grape varietal base wine? I don't know but, I love it. Independently it's an ideal aperitivo based on its brightness alone, but this will certainly give any cocktail more lift. A collaborative effort between former chemist turned Chinato-making wizard Mauro Vergano and natural wine renegades, the Puzelats of Clos du Tue-Boeuf in the Loire Valley, this is a real treat for wine nerds and cocktail enthusiasts alike.

The most famous grape in Piedmont is the noble Nebbiolo, which makes the long-lived Barolo and Barbaresco. There are plenty of Nebbiolo-based wines that are quite enjoyable in their youth, however, often produced in smaller, lesser-known regions such as Ghemme or Gattinara. Several other Piedmontese grapes make striking and delicious wines: Pelaverga produces light-colored reds with distinctive notes of strawberry, cherry, and pink peppercorn. The red Freisa is vinified in a variety of styles:...
