Staff Pick Notes

This is a great example of Bordeaux, west bank, Merlot based red wine. Fronsac, the sub region where this wine is made, produces mostly Merlot, about 80%, followed by Cabernet Franc, 15% and Cabernet Sauvignon,10%. Fun fact: it seems that the name "Merlot" is a diminutive of "merle"...blackbird, for the color of the grape. Usually wine producers in this area harvest Merlot grape early to retain acidity and achieve balance. This wine has flavors of ripe fruit such us black berry and cassis. You can enjoy in your palate a smooth, velvety texture and soft tannins. All nicely supported by a smooth oak aging. To be paired with steak or grilled meat!

For white Bordeaux, only three varieties are permitted: Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillion, and Muscadelle. The exact percentages of each grape variety used in any...

Cabernet Franc

Relegated to moderate obscurity in modern times, Cabernet Franc is in fact the proud parent of the attention-hogging Cabernet Sauvignon (after an illicit affair with Sauvignon Blanc a hundred-odd years ago). Cabernet Franc has remained close to its roots in France, enjoying small pockets of popularity primarily in the Loire Valley (specifically in Chinon), where it is often bottled as a varietal wine, and in Bordeaux where it is still used in moderate percentages in the typical blends. In fact,...
