Staff Pick Notes

If a wine critic with the initials J.S. loves this wine, it must be good right?! Well, here at Astor, we don't necessary judge a wine by the critics reviews, but by the story, production, and value the wine offers. This wine is a stunner for the price! The Illumanati Riparosso vineyards are 320 meters above sea level in Controguerra, a village in the heart of Teramo’s hills. The vineyards facing the sea keeps the vines well ventilated and the exposure to sunlight abundant. This medium-plus-bodied Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, has textured and persistent tannins and a freshness that wines in this price point can lack. Lots of black fruit, smoke, and dried herbs fill out the flavorful palate. Goes perfect with grilled meats and vegetables as well as the local meat-lovers pizza.

Many of the modern incarnations of Abruzzi’s favorite red wine are bigger, more structured,...
