Production Methods

Natural

Wine made from organically or biodynamically grown grapes with minimal intervention avoiding the use of chemicals, additives and technology.

Orange Wine (Skin Contact)

Orange wine is made by using white wine grapes, which are pressed and left in contact with the skins, seeds, and stems for an extended period of time, similar to how red wine is made.

This prolonged maceration extracts color, tannins, and phenols, giving the wine a darker, sometimes orange color. It also produces a wine with more structure and intense flavor.

Maceration times can vary between a few hours to many months, with longer contact giving more color and extraction.

Staff Pick Notes

Every time I experience a Grape Republic wine, I can't help making it my week's staff pick. They are as original and unique as any wines you'll find in the store. Try to find another wine that shows as vibrant a rust orange hue as this. The aromas and flavors also show remarkably unique flavors as orangeade, almonds, crème fraîche, baking spices, and cantaloupe. The wine comes from organically farmed vines and made with minimal intervention in the cellar. It is a blend of 5 varietals (3 hybrid, Pinot Gris, and Gerwürztraminer). Each varietal is fermented and aged separately. They are blended after aging in amphora for 9 months. The Grape Republic has only been around since 2015. But since then, they have taken the natural wine world by storm (or at least my natural wine world).

The variety is cultivated all over the world, but the best examples tend to come from Alsace: these are full-bodied wines with a golden color. The pink-skinned Gewürztraminer does best in cooler climates, which allow the grapes to develop good balancing acidity. This is a necessary attribute of any...

Pinot Gris

Pinot Grigio is an Italian synonym for the French Pinot Gris variety, but many more people have had Pinot Grigio than a Pinot Gris. At its most basic level, the grape produces varietals that are smooth and easy to drink, and perfect with a huge range of dishes that just beg to be paired with a fresh white wine. There is an entire spectrum of Pinot Gris/Grigio, however, the best of them being subtly aromatic and deeply colored, with formidable structures. Most of Italy's Pinot Grigio is grown in...
