While I often enjoy explosive aromas and flavors in agave spirits, there are times that subtlety and elegance captivate my interest when they are done to perfection. That is the case with Don Vicente Tequila. Felipe J. Camarena is a 3rd generation tequila distiller and 6th generation agave farmer and his goal is to produce the cleanest, most authentic, and natural tequila possible. NOM 1579, known as El Pandillo, is located in the highland town of Jesús María, creates several of my favorite tequilas, namely G4 (also from Camarena) as well as ArteNom 1579 (yup, Camarena too!). This reposado is so smooth and buttery that I find myself reaching for it over and over. Agave forward citrus and pepper flavors are softened by 8 months in American white oak, adding hints of butterscotch, honey, and vanilla. A true delight to sip!
