One of the most ingenious whiskies coming out of the new generation of Japanese distillers. Kanosuke without doubt is making some of the highest quality and most inspired whiskies in all of Japan guided by the visionary leadership of Master Blender Yoshitsugu Komasa. What is on the surface a classic single pot still style of whisky utilizing malted and unmalted barley in the mash - quickly turns into a master class in Japanese craftsmanship. For starters the malt percentage in the mash is way higher than a normal single pot still - the grains themselves undergoing an intricate fermentation process first. Aged on average for 4yrs the spirit splits its time in a combination of New American Oak casks and ex-bourbon barrels. Bottled at a healthy, perfectly balanced 51% abv. Round, luscious and alive on the palate with bright notes of apricot marmalade, salted cultered butter, orange peel, fresh almond, cinnamon and spicy ginger.

The Kanosuke distillery has recently generated significant excitement among Japanese-whisky enthusiasts. Although the distillery was founded in 2017, its roots in Shochu and Sake production date back to 1883. Current fourth-generation master distiller Yoshitsugu continues his family's craft at the distillery, which is based in Kagoshima prefecture on Kyushu, at the southern tip of Japan. Kanosuke's Hioki Pot Still Japanese Whisky combines Irish pot still whiskey and bourbon whiskey elements into a hybrid style If you're a fan of bourbon or a more concentrated style of whiskey in general, I believe you would enjoy this Japanese whisky. The baking spice notes are pronounced and supported by pleasant flavors of orchard fruits and sweet cereal grains on the palate. At 51% ABV, this whisky offers remarkable depth of flavor and is a great buy.
